Highland chief named after 158 years

In a colourful ceremony in the west Highlands, Ranald MacDonald, 75, was recognised as the first chief of the MacDonalds of Keppoch since 1848, when the 21st incumbent died without male heirs.

He won the title after a long legal battle, but his success has caused widespread controversy.

The MacDonalds of Keppoch, proud warriors who were the first to rally to the Jacobite cause of Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745, now have a retired hearing aid practitioner as their chief.

But not everyone agrees that the chief is legit.
