The only two women in the USA under 50 without a tattoo?

While in San Francisco, we went here for massages, before which we lolled around in the communal baths. It was a women-only day so most people stripped down to nothing. And everyone had a tattoo. Young, old,fat, thin, white, black, Asian. Didn't matter. Everyone, except for me and my sister, had some form of body art. The most common being the tramp stamp, but there were branded wrists, ankles, boobs, butts and inner thighs galore.

Tattoos, I understood, used to be thought of as daring. Now that everyone has one, though, haven't they lost their dark allure?

When will they stop getting tattoos?

The BBC notices that tattoos are pretty common.

"Do English teachers do things like this? You'll find they do. You'll find tattoos in accounting and lawyers and every straight-up job. It isn't just alternative people."

Where the hell have these people been for the last decade? These days it's the people without tattoos who stand out. It wouldn't surprise me to see a nun with a tramp stamp, perhaps something tasteful like Christ wearing a crown of thorns.

Gwen Stefani refuses to autograph people's bodies lest they tattoo her signature on said bodies.

Gwen said: "This guy asked me to sign his wrist because he wanted to have it tattooed and I said, 'I'm sorry, I'm not doing that.'

"So many of my fans have tattoos of me and I find it quite weird. I can just see their parents smacking them round the head and shouting, 'What were you thinking?!' "
