God, guns and gays

Eric looks at Rudy Guiliani's problems with the Republican base. He thinks Rudy's backing away from his anti-gun stance, which may "be more reflective of the political realities of being mayor of New York" than as a statement of his firm principles.
I think the GOP needs to take a careful look at how to win, and guys like Giuliani and Schwarzenegger (who don't drink the Party Koolaid) are a lot more popular with the mainstream voters who just kicked the business-as-usual Republicans out or power.

But can the base be persuaded to ignore his stance on the three Gs?
