Downtown WWII

Via Michael Blowhard comes this list of favorite World War II movies. I like the list, mostly, but I'd add these:

  • The Great Escape--I first saw this on TV when I was about 10 and I fell instantly in love with Steve McQueen. I still love both. There is never a dull moment. And what a cast!

  • Mrs. Miniver--The homefront, in Britain by way of Hollywood.

  • From Here to Eternity--OK it's pre-WWII, but it ends with the attack on Pearl Harbor.

  • Saboteur--Hitchcock, spies, circus freaks. Need I say more? (Also Foreign correspondent but it takes place before the war--at least before the US was in the war.)

I'm sure there are others, but I can't think what they are. More here and here.
