Emulating porn stars

More and more women in their 20s and 30s are opting for permanent pubic hairlessness via laser treatments, the New York Times reports.
The need to accommodate ever-skimpier lingerie, bathing suits and low-rise pants may have helped put this extreme style in fashion, as did, perhaps, the popularity of Internet pornography. Courtesy of new high-powered lasers that target hair follicles to stunt hair growth, an increasing number of women are opting for full frontal bareness.

The denuded look was popularized a decade ago by aestheticians in New York known as the J Sisters. Body hair has often been the object of transient personal grooming trends, Ms. Etcoff noted. In the 15th century European women shaved the tops of their foreheads to heighten their hairlines. In the 1970's many American women left the hair under their arms unshaven. "But now women with hairy armpits are unusual," Ms. Etcoff said. "Eliminating pubic hair may soon join shaving the legs and underarms as a ubiquitous grooming practice."

More discussion of this phenomenon here, and don't neglect the comments.
