McCartneys go to EU

The McCartney sisters, whose brother Robert was killed by IRA members in a bar last January, have appealed to the EU Parliament for funds to bring a civil suit against their brother's killers.
After the sisters' pleas for assistance, lobbying began to determine whether money from the EU’s fund to help victims of terrorism could be used to help the sisters. Never before have funds been used for an individual legal case.

...

The parliamentary motion states that Mr McCartney was murdered by "members of the IRA, who attempted to cover up the crime and ordered all witnesses to be silent about the involvement of IRA members".

...

The motion added that "if the Police Service of Northern Ireland is unable to bring a prosecution in relation to the murder of Robert McCartney, the European Union grant a financial contribution toward the cost of legal fees incurred by the McCartney family in their quest for justice, by way of civil proceedings".
More IRA hijinks came to light in Colombia, where three IRA members were convicted of training Farc guerillas in "explosive and terrorist techniques." The men have jumped bail and are believed to have fled Colombia.
