100 best films

How many have you seen? Ed posts the American Film Institute's top 100 films. I'm not sure they would be my favorite films but there you are. Anyway, I counted 73 that I've actually sat all the way through. Some I will never see because:

a) I studiously avoid anything even vaguely touching on the topic of the Viet Nam war.

b) I can't stand silent movies. (I know, I know. I'm a philistine.)

c) I don't watch westerns.

Via Terry Teachout, who adds in his post that life is too short to consider watching Dances With Wolves. Agreed.

Philistine alert: I also despise Citizen Kane. I think this has something to do with having spent a lifetime of hearing about what a great "film" it was prior to actually seeing it. The real thing was a letdown.
