Sacrificing to the Carbon God

In the year 2009, it's an equally sure thing in the minds of some that carbon in the atmosphere is going to fry us unless we put the welfare of millions on the line, and here is the latest on President Obama's plan -- it could cost industry almost $2 trillion over an eight-year period.

I have to believe that if Obama has any political sense, forget decency, whatsoever that he would back away from this. But why else would he be meeting with the American Legion Commander? Maybe he really is just a teleprompter reader.

President Obama: Fool or Knave?
"Fool", so says P.J. O'Rourke.
"Incompetent", implies Dick Morris.
All of the above writes Victor Davis Hanson.
I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, after all, he did sound smart and articulate with a teleprompter in front of him. Perhaps he should have gone after Katie Couric's job instead, though, and saved us a few trillion bucks.
Update: At least it's all for the children. Or it's all paid by them in any event.

Pickup Basketball
I love to play pickup basketball games and couldn't stop laughing reading this piece about the characters who are usually involved in pickup games.
I'll add: Clearly Awful Guy. This guy has no pretenses about who he is- he cannot play basketball. Everyone treats him like a 2 year old who just used the potty for the first time whenever he does something good, or just not something terrible.

Tim Geithner: Fool
Great.
In a speech to a closed gathering at the Lowy Institute in Sydney on Thursday, Paul Keating gave a starkly different account of Geithner's record in handling the Asian crisis: "Tim Geithner was the Treasury line officer who wrote the IMF [International Monetary Fund] program for Indonesia in 1997-98, which was to apply current account solutions to a capital account crisis."
In other words, Geithner fundamentally misdiagnosed the problem. And his misdiagnosis led to a dreadfully wrong prescription.

Ramses II was also interested in architecture and that interest resulted in the erection of more monuments than any of the other ancient Egyptian pharaohs. A significant number of architectural tributes still dominate the landscape of Egypt today, attributed to Ramses 2. The Ramses II monument at Abu Simbel is the most famous of all. (i'm only slightly kidding). rahm seems to think that the crisis is a good cover to do big things. if its a catastrophe they can do catastrophic things in reaciton to it. this is really, really scary."

Holmes: "I think they really believe their ideology will cure our ills, even if it destroys free markets. But hey, who likes being shallow and buying stuff you see on tv anyway?
It's not socialism- it's economic fascism, by the way. Socialism means no property rights. Fascism, in an economic sense, meant a corporate-state alliance. Government "partnering" with the corporate entities. We just don't have the warmongering (Bush-Mussollini-Hitler) to go along with it.
They don't know how to solve the banking mess- other than just throwing around more printed money. So, why focus on such unpleasant realities when you can turn to utopian dreams? Liberalism is nothing if not well equipped to do that.
Hillary now declaring the crisis is a good cover to do other things, like transform us to a "green" (translated: drop in 30% of GDP) economy. It's like these people all emerged from the same school (radical) of thought.
The real fear now, I think, is not a depression- we will start to move the economy forward in 10-12 months by most accounts. But we'll still have high unemployment, but now a hugely increased money supply. We can think of our money supply like a local game of Hold 'Em poker, tournament style. You have a pot of real dollars- the real output of the game. Then you assign a bunch of poker chips, which represent various nominal amounts (5, 10, 50, etc), but which really represent a portion of the total pot. We just tripled the number of chips without increasing the pot size. I look forward to bringing my wheelbarrow of cash to the Official Obama Store to buy whatever is left in stock (since Walmart is evil, if you didn't know- need a green/union-friendly alternative to help the economy [translated: reelection warchest])."

We may just LURVE Michelle's fashion sense. But Michelle doesn't reciprocate our affection, one bit. Her broad-brush view of history associates Brits with the wicked white global hegemony responsible for the slave trade. Never mind that a white, Tory Englishman - William Wilberforce - brought the slave trade to an end. Judging by her record, Michelle does not make room for such subtle nuance.

Michelle Obama's bare arms
The fashion press has been carrying on about this for a couple of weeks at least. But everyone and his brother have noticed Michelle's sleevelessness and the arms on display.
Michelle needs a pass on this one. Clearly, she bares her arms because her hubby turns up the thermostat to tropical levels.
